as posted by the channelThe history of Belarus is interesting. During WW1 Belarus was taken by the German army. It was left in the German sphere of influence after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk (1918). Between 1918 and 1919 Belarus achieved independence as the Belarusian People's Republic (a.k.a. White Ruthenian Democratic Republic). In the aftermath of the Russian Revolution (1917) and the Russian Civil War (1918 - 1922) a lot of turmoil took place is this area. During a few months Lithuania and Belarus were merged as the Lithuanian–Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (a.k.a. the Litbel), a communist soviet republic of Bolshevik Russia. Meanwhile the Polish-Soviet War (1919-1921) was in full swing. The Lithuanian–Byelorussian SSR was soon dissolved and a part of current Belarus came under soviet control with the capital city of Minsk. It became one of the republics of the Soviet Union. The western part was added to the Second Polish Republic. The eastern part would suffer under Stalin's Great Purge during the 1930s. History Hustle presents: When Belarus failed to gain independence.
