The Dutch West India Company (WIC) was important in Dutch history. The WIC transported many African slaves across the Atlantic Ocean in the so-called transatlantic slave trade. In 1621 the Dutch West India Company (WIC – West-Indische Compagnie) was established and brought great wealth to the Dutch Republic. Yet, many people suffered. What is learned about this suffering?
