The British began the colonization of India with the British East India Company (EIC). The Mughal Empire (or: Mogul Empire) was in decline. After the Sepoy Mutiny (or: the Indian Rebellion of 1857; or: the First War of Independence) India became part of the British Crown. The British Raj would be under British rule till 1947 by the Indian National Congress.
