as posted by the channel

The liberation of France during World War Two happened fairly swift. In WW2 France was occupied by Germany. In June 1944 the allies launched Operation Overlord that started with the Normandy landings (also known as Operation Neptune, or D-Day) at the beaches of Normandy. Heavy losses were suffered at Omaha beach. Yet, the Americans, British and Canadians were now in Normandy. Battles over Cotentin Peninsula followed. Over the course of the summer they broke out. After the Falaise Pocket was dissolved the Liberation of Paris was at hand. The French Resistance helped the allies with liberating Paris. Operation Dragoon in the south of France also attributed to the liberation of France in WWII.
