In this short-lived state video you will learn about the short-lived Republic of German-Austria (1918–1919). This was the first Austrian state after the First World War. Before that there was the Austria-Hungarian Dual Monarchy. That monarchy was no more. On 12 November 1918 the German-Austrian National Assembly proclaimed the Republic of Deutsch-Österreich. Yet, the Treaty of Saint Germain (1919) forbade a union with Germany and thus the First Austrian Republic was born.
