The Siege of Strasbourg (1870) took place during the Franco-Prussian War (1870 – 1871) where the French Empire fought against the North German Confederation (alongside with south German states) led by Prussia. French commander Jean-Jacques Uhrich led the French forces in the city. Prussian commander August von Werder hoped to make the city surrender after a few cannon shots. Yet, this wasn't the case. This siege is largely forgotten, but it was a battle that showed the horros of modern war.
