The Saar Protectorate (Saarprotektorat / Protectorat de la Sarre) was a short-lived state, rather a short-lived protectorate. It existed from 1946 till 1956 and was under French administration. After World War II in Europe was over, Germany was partitioned in four zones. The Saarland became the Saar Protectorate. The Schuman Declaration in 1950 was the first attempt on creating the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC); the later European Union. Why did the French Fail to Annex Saarland?
