Fascism and Nazism was not only prevelant in Italy and Germany in the run-up and during the Second World War. The Norwegian Fascist Party, known as Nasjonal Samling (NS), was a political organization founded in 1933 by Vidkun Quisling. NS aimed to establish a fascist regime in Norway, and it drew inspiration from Adolf Hitler's Nazi Party in Germany and Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime in Italy. The party's key objectives included authoritarian rule, anti-Semitism, and the promotion of a single-party state. During World War II, when Nazi Germany occupied Norway in 1940, Nasjonal Samling gained some political influence and Quisling briefly served as the country's puppet prime minister. However, the party never gained widespread support among Norwegians. After the war, Quisling was arrested and executed for treason, and NS was declared illegal. Quisling's name has been synonymous for collaborators with the Nazi regime.
