as posted by the channelThe Chaco War (1932-1935) was a conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay over the Gran Chaco region, rich in oil and land. Rooted in territorial disputes, economic interests, and nationalist fervor, the war witnessed brutal trench warfare in harsh, inhospitable conditions. Both nations sought to assert control over the Chaco region, a semi-arid wilderness.
The conflict intensified as both sides faced logistical challenges and suffered staggering casualties due to disease, malnutrition, and combat. All in all over 100,000 South Americans got killed. International mediation attempts failed to halt the bloodshed. Bolivia used tanks on the battlefield and Paraguay re-used captured tanks against Bolivia. The war concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 1935, mediated by the League of Nations. Paraguay gained the majority of the disputed territory, and Bolivia, defeated and economically weakened, ceded significant resources.
