Fascism and Nazism was not only prevelant in Italy and Germany in the run-up and during the Second World War.
The Ustasha movement was a Croatian ultranationalist organization that emerged in the early 20th century and played a significant role in the tumultuous history of Croatia. Founded in 1929 by Ante Pavelić, the Ustasha aimed to establish an independent Croatia, free from Yugoslavia's control. They advocated for an ethnically pure Croatian state and embraced extreme nationalism and violence.
During World War II, the Ustasha gained notoriety for their collaboration with the Axis Powers. They established the Independent State of Croatia in 1941. Under Ustasha rule, horrific atrocities were committed, including the persecution, forced conversion, and mass murder of Serbs, Jews, and Romani people.
After World War II, the Ustasha movement was suppressed, and many of its leaders fled into exile. Ante Pavelić was one of them and never answered for his crimes.
