YouTube Description
as posted by the channelEvliya Çelebi wrote in the 1630s that Lagari Hasan Çelebi had blasted off from Sarayburnu in Istanbul with a 7-winged rocket propelled by 140 pounds of gunpowder.
According to the famed Ottoman travel writer Evliya Celebi, Lagari made his flight at the time of Sultan Murad IV's daughter’s birth. Celebi wrote that as Lagari was about to take off he said:
"O my sultan! Be blessed, I am going to talk to Jesus!"
After landing safely on land, he swam to shore and greeted the Sultan by saying "O my sultan! Jesus sends his regards to you." For this accomplishment, he was rewarded with silver from the Ottoman government as well as being named a sipahi in its army.
