YouTube Description
as posted by the channelState officials have ramped up enforcement of unlicensed care homes since Act 148 became law in 2018, with The Office of Health Care Assurance issuing cease-and-desist orders to an average of six homes per year.
The notices require homes to close and pay fines of up to $1,000 for every day they operated without a license. However, many continue to operate throughout the state. Every time one of these cease-and-desist orders is issued, an additional 10-20 unlicensed homes close or change locations to avoid enforcement. And many more continue to hide from regulators.
Learn why so many of these homes choose to continue operating unlicensed, and what this means for Hawaii’s aging population and limited availability of beds in longterm care facilities
