Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is addressing the Parliament on Army helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. The chopper with Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his staff and family members on board crashed in the Nilgiris, shortly after the Mi-series chopper took off from the army base in Sulur.
Initial reports said that 14 people, including senior defence officials, were on board the Mi Series chopper when the accident happened. News agency PTI has reported that at least 4 onboard have been confirmed dead. Videos from the site of the crash showed Chopper up in flames. Reports also added that 3 on board were rescued and admitted to a hospital. A tweet from the Indian Air Force confirmed the crash and also that CDS Rawat was on board.
The rescue operations are on and the Army has not officially said anything on the incident yet.
