The inferno, reaching up to 20 stories high, started at 8:10 a.m. near a gas station and was visible for miles. Firefighters struggled for hours to contain the blaze as authorities evacuated residents to nearby mosques. Selangor Deputy Police Chief Mohamad Zaini Abu Hassan reported that 112 people were injured, with 63 hospitalized for burns and breathing issues. Viral social media footage showed the explosion’s intensity, with residents reporting tremors strong enough to shake windows and doors.
Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari assured that emergency measures were in place, and disaster management teams had shut the pipeline valves to extinguish the fire gradually. Petronas temporarily closed three gas stations as a precaution. While no fatalities have been reported, investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing. The incident highlights growing concerns over gas pipeline safety in Malaysia.
