President Donald Trump makes a bombshell announcement that the United States will immediately halt its bombing campaign against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Speaking alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in the Oval Office, Trump declared “they don’t want to fight anymore” and “they have capitulated.” The president said the Houthis have promised to stop attacking ships in the Red Sea, adding “we will take their word.” This dramatic shift comes after an intensive two-month military campaign that struck over 800 targets and killed hundreds of Houthi fighters according to U.S. Central Command. Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized the operation as a “freedom of navigation mission” against threats to global shipping. The announcement comes just hours after Israeli warplanes struck Sanaa in retaliation for a Houthi missile that landed near Tel Aviv airport.
