YouTube Description
as posted by the channelLibya's capital, Tripoli, witnessed armed clashes on Monday, following the assassination of Abdulghani Kikli, leader of a major armed group in the war-torn nation.
Popularly known as Ghaniwa, Kikli was the commander of the Support Forces Apparatus (SSA), that operates under the country's Presidential Council. That's the top decision-making body in Libya's Government of National Unity (GNU), or the UN-backed government in Tripoli.
Kikli was killed in SSA's clashes with the 444th Infantry Brigade, another armed group that functions under the GNU, based in the nearby city of Misrata.
Gun battles were witnessed in Tripoli's Abu Salim neighborhood, and the UN has raised concerns over heavy weaponry being used in densely populated areas. The government has assured the army has taken control of the area, and requested civilians to shelter in place for their own safety.
But the recent armed battle is one of many in post-Gaddafi Libya. Remember, Libya plunged into chaos after the NATO-backed uprising that toppled and killed Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
Western military alliance members the US, UK and France justified the invasion of Libya, saying the country lacked freedom and didn't have a constitution.
