The two-day visit by Larijani comes amid reports that US President Donald Trump has demanded Iraq remove pro-Iran militias from its territory. On Monday, Larijani signed a security memorandum of understanding with Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, and National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji. The two nations announced a series of commitments aimed at further cementing their ties. Larijani stated that Iran seeks to develop a passenger rail link and other transportation corridors to Iraq. Larijani’s visit is significant amid the planned US forces' withdrawal from Iraq after more than a decade of presence.
