4:21Now PlayingSyrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa has been working to bring the entire Syrian territory under his government’s control. On August 17, al-Sharaa once again expressed hope that his government would integrate the Kurdish-ruled territory under its administration. Sharaa, however, emphasized that he wants to avoid any military conflict with the US-backed Kurdish forces. His statement comes amid stalled talks between his government and Kurdish leaders. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the government in Damascus began negotiations after coming to the power last year. In March 2025 the leaders reached a deal aimed at unifying Syria and ending the decade long conflict.
