The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has opened its investigation into alleged anomalies in the country’s flood control projects. Committee chair Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, in his first hearing as chairman, vowed to leave “no stone unturned” in tracing irregularities and exposing those behind them.
The probe was launched following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call in his latest State of the Nation Address to review flood mitigation programs after devastating floods hit the country in July. Lawmakers are scrutinizing links between contractors and public officials, with some senators and House members reportedly tied to construction firms through campaign donations or family-owned businesses.
Marcoleta stressed the inquiry is not just about accountability but also about finding long-term, effective solutions to the country’s recurring flood problems.
