Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has resigned as chairperson of the powerful Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, days after a heated exchange with Senator Rodante Marcoleta over his remarks on the flood control investigation.
The dispute began when Marcoleta questioned Lacson’s interview statements, claiming they sounded like a premature judgment on the probe into alleged anomalous DPWH flood control projects. Lacson clarified that his comments were his personal opinion and not an official conclusion of the committee — but Marcoleta insisted that a committee chair cannot issue opinions during an ongoing investigation.
In his resignation letter dated October 6, Lacson said there were “no political considerations” behind his decision, stressing that he had acted impartially and transparently in leading the flood control inquiry. His exit now throws the Blue Ribbon Committee into uncertainty as the probe widens.
