In a rare rebuke from within his own party, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) blasted President Donald Trump’s 10% import tax on Canada, calling it petty and un-American. Speaking on the Senate floor, Paul reminded the administration that “Reagan was a free trader,” quoting Ronald Reagan’s words that “protectionism costs consumers billions of dollars, damages the overall economy, and destroys jobs.” Paul said Trump’s tariffs betray conservative principles and warned that trade wars hurt American workers, farmers, and global trust in U.S. leadership.
