‘Resign Now’: Jeffries, AOC, Newsom Explode At Republican Randy Fine Over ‘Muslims & Dogs’ Post

US News: A political firestorm is erupting on US Capitol Hill. Democrats are demanding consequences after Representative Randy Fine posted a controversial message on social media, writing, “If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one.”

The controversy began after Nerdeen Kiswani, a Palestinian-American activist, made remarks about dogs on 12 Februrary that drew widespread backlash and unexpectedly pulled New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani into the debate. She wrote, “Finally, NYC is coming to Islam. Dogs definitely have a place in society, just not as indoor pets. Like we’ve said all along, they are unclean.” The comments quickly circulated online, sparking criticism and intensifying political tensions. Fine responded by doubling down on his position, arguing that what he found “truly disgusting” is a key Mamdani advisor saying we must give up our dogs because "NYC is coming to Islam". He added "We will not be shamed into being conquered like the Europeans. I choose my dog."

Fine's initial post sparked a parade of criticism by democrats and a handful of calls for him to resign. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Fine “a disgrace to the United States Congress” and labeled the remark “Islamophobic” and “disgusting bigotry.” Jeffries urged Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican leaders to act, accusing them of remaining silent in the face of rising xenophobia and hate. Responding to this statement, Randy Fine posted on x "He's just jealous of our new dog, Hakeem."

Several Democrats are now calling for Fine to be formally censured, a rare reprimand that could strip him of committee assignments. Representative Ro Khanna said, “It’s about morality and decency, not politics.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the comment as one of the most disturbing statements she has seen from an American official. she added “It should not stop shocking us that the Republican Party openly embraces this. Fine should be censured & stripped of committees. To ignore this is to accept and normalize it"

The criticism went well beyond Democratic members of Congress. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) told Fine: “Resign now, you racist slob.” Even some conservative voices questioned the post. Conservative radio and podcast host Megyn Kelly responded, “wtf is this”. When Fine responded to Kelly’s post by asking “figured it out yet?” she retorted, “What I figured out, you pathetic sweaty man, is when an idiot Muslim says ‘no dogs in NYC,’ instead of attacking the person or the policy, you went full bigot. F— off.” Rasmussen Reports pollster Mark Mitchell also commented, “Hey @GOP Not a good look.”

Fine has not issued a formal statement, but responded online with defiance. He repeatedly posted a Gadsden flag — which normally features a snake and the words “Don’t tread on me” — with a puppy in place of a snake. This escalates a controversy that is now fueling demands for accountability in Congress. The battle over rhetoric, responsibility, and political consequences is far from over.
