Responding to questions about a possible U.S.–Ukraine–Russia summit, Sikorski said he was wary of “unprepared meetings of heads of state or government,” in comments widely seen as a swipe at Donald Trump’s past talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
“We had such a meeting in Alaska, it didn’t help,” Sikorski said. He argued that any summit should only take place once a deal has already been negotiated and is ready to be confirmed. Otherwise, he warned, the risks could outweigh the potential benefits.
He also emphasized that Europe should be part of any negotiations concerning the war in Ukraine, underscoring the continent’s direct stake in regional security and diplomatic outcomes.
