9:08Now PlayingUS-Iran War: Reporters grilled U.S. President Donald Trump over the escalating Middle East conflict and tensions with Iran, raising questions about a possible domestic terrorist threat and the deadly airstrike on an Iranian school that reportedly killed more than 165 people, most of them children.
During the exchange with the press, Trump was asked whether the United States bears responsibility for the strike. The president responded, “I don’t know about it,” declining to elaborate further.
Meanwhile, the White House says an investigation into the airstrike is still ongoing. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Wednesday that there has been no preliminary determination yet about who was responsible for the attack.
Trump also addressed the growing global energy concerns amid the Iran conflict. Speaking to reporters as he departed the White House for a trip to Ohio and Kentucky, the president said he believes oil companies should continue using the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes for oil and gas.
“I think they should,” Trump said when asked if he had spoken with oil companies about the situation. He added that the United States has already hit Iran harder than virtually any country in history, warning that “we’re not finished yet.”
The Strait of Hormuz, located off Iran’s coast, remains a vital but increasingly dangerous waterway. Iranian forces have the capability to target ships with missiles, drones, and naval mines, while the U.S. military has been working to limit Iran’s ability to lay mines and secure the route for global energy shipments.
Watch the full exchange as reporters question Trump on the Iran war, security threats, and the deadly school airstrike investigation.
