Speaking at the hearing titled “Republicans Try to Pretend Donald Trump Hasn’t Ruined DHS” on March 25, 2026, Green didn’t hold back. He warned that Trump is pushing Republicans to bypass the 60-vote threshold and instead rely on a simple majority to pass legislation.
“The requirement that you have 60 votes to get to cloture… he wants to kill the filibuster,” Green said. “If he can accomplish this, then he’ll do some other dastardly things… killing the filibuster is his goal.”
Green accused Trump of using the shutdown as leverage, claiming the President is pressuring Republicans to follow his lead. “He has complete control of the Republican Party… and he is demanding that it obey his command,” Green added.
The congressman also slammed the administration’s handling of federal workers, particularly TSA employees. “The President doesn’t care about TSA workers. This is not about helping them—it’s about getting his way,” he said, warning that workers are being left unpaid while political battles play out in Washington.
The explosive remarks have intensified the debate over Senate rules, executive power, and the ongoing shutdown’s real purpose.
