4:43:51Now PlayingThe United Nations has strongly condemned a series of deadly incidents targeting peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, warning that such attacks may constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law and could amount to war crimes. The remarks come after multiple UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) personnel were killed and injured in explosions and attacks in recent days, including members of the Indonesian contingent.
According to UN officials, one peacekeeper was killed and others wounded in an explosion in southern Lebanon, while a separate incident involving a UNIFIL logistics convoy resulted in further casualties. The UN said the origin of the attacks remains under investigation, but stressed that the locations of UN positions are well known to all parties operating in the area.
The situation has been further aggravated by what the UN described as increasingly aggressive behavior toward peacekeepers. In one incident, warning shots were fired near a UNIFIL convoy, and a tank shell reportedly exploded close to a UN vehicle, causing damage. The UN emphasized that peacekeepers must never be targeted and called for full accountability.
