35:31Now PlayingUS News: House Democrats launched a fierce and emotional attack on former President Donald Trump’s handling of the Iran war during a heated session in Congress, with some lawmakers going as far as to describe recent actions as “acts of genocide.” The explosive debate highlighted deep divisions in Washington over the legality, morality, and consequences of the ongoing conflict.
During the explosive session, multiple Democratic lawmakers delivered sharp rebukes of the administration’s actions:
Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) accused Trump of misleading the nation, stating that “this was all a lie,” adding that the justification for war had no credible evidence and had already cost American lives.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) called the war “illegal and unconstitutional,” warning that billions in taxpayer money are being spent with “no strategy, no plan, and no exit.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) went further, labeling the conflict “an illegal and disastrous war,” and warning that Trump had “threatened acts of genocide” against civilians.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) highlighted the human cost, saying the war was launched “without Congress, without accountability, and without a plan for peace.”
Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) emphasized the lack of preparation, stating Congress had seen “no clear objectives, no strategy, and no exit plan” before troops were deployed.
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) delivered one of the most emotional remarks, calling the conflict a “contemptible failure of moral leadership” and pointing to civilian casualties carried out “in our name.”
Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI) slammed the economic impact, saying Americans are being told there’s no money for healthcare while billions are being spent on what he called an “unnecessary war of choice.”
The debate comes amid growing concerns over inflation, rising gas prices, and the broader global fallout from the Iran conflict. Democrats are pushing for a war powers resolution to reassert congressional authority and bring an end to the war.
