World News: EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas took aim at the growing U.S.-China dynamic during a fireside chat with Financial Times columnist Edward Luce at the Lennart Meri Conference, warning that smaller nations are increasingly anxious about a “G2 world” dominated by Washington and Beijing.

Reacting to Donald Trump’s recent visit to China and summit with Xi Jinping, Kallas said many countries are “very much afraid” of what happens when the world’s biggest powers grow closer. Quoting an Asian foreign minister, she joked: “When elephants fight, the grass gets trampled — but actually it’s worse when the elephants make love,” suggesting smaller countries fear the consequences of a closer U.S.-China relationship.

Kallas argued that Europe must stay united and strengthen its defense capabilities as global tensions rise over China, Russia, Iran, and Ukraine. She said rivals, including Russia and China, dislike the EU because “if we stick together, we are equal powers.”

Discussing the Iran crisis, Kallas warned that renewed attacks would not solve tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and stressed that “there has to be a diplomatic solution in the end.” She also cautioned that China’s “coercive economic practices” are becoming a growing global challenge, saying Europe understands “the diagnosis of the disease” but still lacks agreement on “the cure.”

The conversation also touched on Ukraine, NATO, Trump’s foreign policy, Marco Rubio, Viktor Orbán, and Europe’s growing push for strategic autonomy.
