11:39:25Now PlayingRep. Thomas Massie has lost Kentucky’s Republican primary after a bruising showdown with Donald Trump and the MAGA establishment. Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and farmer, defeated the longtime congressman in one of the most expensive House primaries in U.S. history, with millions spent on attack ads and endorsements.
Massie, known for repeatedly breaking with Trump on issues including government spending, foreign policy and the Epstein files, framed himself as an independent conservative resisting “100% compliance” politics. But Trump turned the race into a loyalty test, personally attacking Massie at rallies and backing Gallrein as the candidate who would align with the MAGA movement.
The Kentucky primary is now being seen as another major sign of Trump’s continuing grip over the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 midterms. Gallrein heads into the general election as the favorite in the deeply Republican district.
