0:18Now PlayingA minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at the Main Crater of Taal Volcano in the Philippines, sending ash and steam more than 1,200 metres into the air. The eruption was captured on video, showing a dark grey plume rising before drifting southwest over nearby areas.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the eruption was caused by magma interacting with water, producing explosive bursts of steam and ash. Officials said such activity has been recurring since 2021.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating low-level volcanic unrest, while authorities continue to closely monitor the volcano.
