After Trump endorsed Ken Paxton, who defeated Cornyn, the outgoing senator is using his remaining influence to stall the confirmation of Trump's former personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, as Attorney General. Cornyn is demanding written assurances that a controversial $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization" fund tied to Trump's IRS settlement has been permanently scrapped and that tax audit protections for Trump's family are narrowly limited. North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis has backed similar demands, giving the two Republicans enough leverage to delay Blanche's confirmation. While Trump dismissed the dispute and suggested Cornyn was simply upset over the endorsement, Cornyn has warned the president to expect a "pretty bumpy ride" during his final months in the Senate.
