8:21Now PlayingOn the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, a coalition of more than 50 countries and the European Union issued a strong statement condemning Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine and calling for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire. The statement highlighted the mounting civilian casualties, attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and Black Sea shipping, the forced transfer and deportation of Ukrainian children, and the wider security risks created by the war. The countries also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The coalition called on Russia to accept an unconditional ceasefire and return to negotiations aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
