Twenty-three-year-old Oksana Balandina was walking home with her fiancé, Viktor, on March 27th. It was about a month after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, and Oksana stumbled on an unexploded landmine. Doctors had to amputate Oksana’s legs and four of the fingers on her left hand. Viktor was not injured in the explosion and now says he wishes they had left Ukraine earlier. The couple hopes eventually to travel to Germany for Oksana to get rehabilitation and prosthetic legs.
