Olivia and Sophia Dikeman were babies when they were diagnosed with Diamond-Blackfan anemia, a disorder that primarily affects the bone marrow's ability to make enough red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body's tissues. Olivia and Sophia, now 14, don't know a life without bi-weekly trips to the hospital for transfusions. But their already weakened immune systems put them at greater risk for cancer, and make the prospect of contracting COVID-19 all the more frightening.
