Authorities in Richmond, Virginia, say a resident helped law enforcement thwart a mass shooting. Police Chief Gerald M. Smith said “A Hero Citizen picked up the phone” after overhearing a conversation about a possible mass shooting during the city’s 4th of July celebrations. That tip led authorities to search a local home where authorities found “2 assault rifles, 1 handgun, and 223 rounds of ammunition.”
