This water fight is actually an annual event that takes place in Madrid and coincides with the festival of the Virgin Carmen, patron saint of sailors. The Germans took a more one-on-one approach to their water fighting, with a 500-year-old competition known as Fischerstechen, or Fisherman’s Jousting.
