History was made when NASA successfully crashed a satellite into an asteroid. It sounds like a really bad mistake, but mission control has never been this excited to see a lost signal. DART was the first test of our ability to defend the Earth against an asteroid. A team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory attempted to move an asteroid seven million miles away in hopes of being able to defend the planet in the future.
