1:31Now PlayingA family of eight was touring Grand Canyon Caverns near Flagstaff, Arizona, when the elevator broke. The malfunction trapped the family 200 feet underground. Four family members climbed 21 flights of stairs to escape. However, the others stayed behind due to disabilities and health conditions. They were able to stay at a luxury hotel suite inside the cavern for free until rescuers hoisted each family member out using a pulley.
