Bonfires, fireworks and a plot to kill a king; Those are the makings of a British holiday. Guy Fawkes Night is celebrated on Nov. 5 in the U.K. Its history dates back to 1605 and a foiled assassination attempt that could have changed history. Guy Fawkes, the man who was supposed to light the explosive fuse, was arrested, tried, convicted and executed. Four hundred years later, bonfires and fireworks, symbolic of what could have happened in Parliament, mark the night of Nov. 5.
