Across the country, thousands of flights were canceled and delayed as millions were trying to get home from their Christmas vacations. Thousands of would-be fliers were stranded after flights were grounded by that brutal holiday storm. Most of the U.S. flight cancellations were on Southwest Airlines. The airline axed over 2,000 flights. Southwest admitted its handling of the situation was unacceptable and apologized repeatedly, blaming the extreme weather.
