About 29,000 weapons, a mix of many types of gun, plus mortars and rocket launchers, were all confiscated by Colombian authorities. They came from both large criminal organizations and smaller crimes. To avoid the chance of these firearms going back onto the streets, the metal was melted down. It will soon be made into construction rods to build low-income housing.
