Officials from the state said the disease, which causes skin lesions and swollen lymph nodes, was first discovered in 2015, but last month’s death is the first reported fatality. They say the man was undergoing cancer treatments at the time. Cases are rare. In fact, officials say there have been less than 10 cases of Alaskapox reported since it was first discovered.
