Weeks after Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, “Peanuts” creator Charles Shultz introduced a Black character. Franklin became a small but impactful symbol of racial harmony, but a scene from the 1973 Thanksgiving special is now viewed as a terrible slight. A half-century later, Franklin is finally taking his proper place at the table.
