Sammy Basso, who served as Ambassador for the Progeria Research Foundation from the age of ten, grew up and graduated with two university degrees in Italy. Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder that causes children to age rapidly, shortening their life expectancy to about 15 or 20 years. Sammy Basso was 28 years old.
