*This* Is Why Surrogacy Can Go So Wrong

Earlier this week, a harrowing story out of Canada was shared in the news cycle of a young woman who had volunteered to be a surrogate for a gay couple hoping to become parents.

At 6 months pregnant, she received a routine ultrasound during her pregnancy and it was discovered that the baby *may* have a potential cosmetic birth defect—a cleft palate. Immediately, the two men demanded their precious baby be aborted in a late-term abortion… and their surrogate refused.

In response, these men sued their surrogate mother for $600,000 due to “emotional distress,” but certainly had no regard for the “emotional distress” of telling a young mother to end the life of an innocent baby… who for the record was born perfectly healthy with zero health problems, and now lives with his two Dads in spite of their hesitancy for their son to be born in the first place.

*This* is precisely why surrogacy is so controversial and is being banned in various capacities around the world—because it boils human beings, babies, down to products we commodify to be bought and sold.
