43:19Now PlayingI sat down with Peter Hitchens to discuss his book The Rage Against God.
I went in expecting a fairly philosophical conversation – a defence of religious belief, and a critique of new atheism, along the lines set out in his book. Peter had kindly agreed to that.
However, as the conversation unfolds, he tells me that he only wrote the book because the publishers thought it would be financially beneficial. In truth, he says, he’s not interested in engaging with philosophical arguments – preferring instead a personal and reflective approach. I press on regardless.
Although Peter describes the interview as “one from hell”, we ended up staying for another hour after the recording – chatting politics, religion, and our plans for the future, which will likely include another conversation between us on the podcast… hopefully a more fruitful one next time around.
