as posted by the channelDuring my childhood from the late 90s through mid 2000s, absolutely everything was EXTREME (or Xtreme/X-treme)!!!!! It was a weird, but fun time, and I thought it would make a fun video topic. But after doing some Google-Fu, it turns out that there's next to no concrete information out there on it. The furthest anything, from forum posts to articles, went was basically "remember when things were Xtreme? lol" without any real analysis. So, since nobody else has done so in 20 years, I guess I'll be that guy. It's time to find out why our childhoods were so so X-TREME! And through a lot of time and research, I think I have satisfying answer that I'll share with you in this video.
The topic led me down another pop-culture path that I never considered before. An oddity that I'll refer to as "The X Obsession". This term refers to the ludicrous amount of brands that contain the letter "X" in their title. X-Men, X Box, Twitter being renamed X, and a million other examples. Why exactly are we so culturally fixated on the letter X? I'm really fascinated by this topic. I only scratched the surface in this video, but if it gets enough interest, I'll do a deep dive on it in the future!
