President Obama and Republican lawmakers have both pledged to work together to end the political gridlock. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the soon-to-be majority leader, has vowed to make the Senate more effective and functional to pass legislation. President Obama said he was eager to work with the new Congress and plans to meet with congressional leaders at the White House on Friday to discuss issues where there may be room for compromise.
