YouTube Description
as posted by the channelAs the 114th Congress is sworn in and John Boehner runs for a third term as speaker, we look back in the Washington Week Vault to the beginning of the last Congress. Fresh off an eleventh-hour vote to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff, Speaker Boehner faced his first opposition to reelection -- receiving only three votes more than the necessary 217. Twelve Republicans broke ranks to cast their votes for another candidate or no one at all. This year, Speaker Boehner is once again expected to lose some Republican votes, but with a larger margin in the House, he can lose nearly 30 GOP votes and still be reelected speaker.
