as posted by the channelThe suspected gunman who killed nine people at a Charleston AME church yesterday is in custody. And today, President Obama offered his condolences to the victims' families. "There is something particularly heartbreaking about death happening at a place in which we seek solace, we seek peace, a place of worship," Obama said.
The president also said the time would come to renew the political debate about gun violence in America after yet another mass shooting. "I've had to make statements like this too many times. Communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times," Obama said. "At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn't happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it."
